Who we are
HomewiseUk is a trading name of Cwtch Digital Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17047763), whose registered office is at 4 Gwel y Mynydd, Llanberis, Caernarfon, LL55 4GA, United Kingdom. Cwtch Digital Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described on this page.
If you have any question about how we handle your information, email info@homewiseuk.co.uk. A real person reads it.
What we collect
When you buy from us, or contact us, we collect:
- Your name and contact details — email address, delivery address, billing address and phone number.
- Your order details — what you bought, when, how much you paid, and any returns or exchanges.
- Payment confirmation — that a payment succeeded, the card type and the last four digits. We never see or store your full card number. Payments are handled by Shopify Payments; your card details go directly to them.
- Anything you write to us — the content of emails and messages you send.
- Basic technical information — your IP address, browser and device type, and how you moved around our website. This comes from cookies and similar technology.
If you don't buy anything and don't contact us, the technical information above is all we hold.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To fulfil your order — taking payment, arranging delivery, handling returns, answering your questions. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To keep our records — accounts, tax and VAT records. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
- To prevent fraud and keep the site working — checking payments are genuine, keeping the website secure and improving how it works. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in running a business safely.
- Non-essential cookies — only where you have agreed through our cookie banner. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
We do not currently send marketing emails, and we do not use your information for advertising or profiling. If that ever changes we will ask for your consent first, and you will be able to withdraw it at any time.
We do not make any decisions about you by automated means.
Who we share it with
This is the part worth reading, because it explains how a small shop gets a large item to your door.
- Our supplier. Items are dispatched directly from our UK supplier's warehouse. To send your order, we pass them your name, delivery address and phone number. They do not receive your payment details, and they may not use your information for anything other than fulfilling your order.
- Couriers. Our supplier passes your name, address and phone number to the delivery company handling your parcel, so they can arrange and complete delivery.
- Shopify, who host our website and process our payments.
- Microsoft, who host our email.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it — for example a valid request from a court, HMRC or the police — or if we ever needed to establish or defend a legal claim.
Sending information outside the UK
Some of the companies above are based outside the UK, or store data outside it. Where your information is transferred abroad, it is protected either because the destination country has been formally recognised by the UK as providing adequate protection, or by the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Order and payment records: six years from the end of the tax year in which you ordered. We are required to keep these for tax purposes, and they also cover the period in which a consumer claim could be brought.
- Emails and enquiries: up to two years, so we can pick up the thread if you come back to us.
- Website technical data: as long as the relevant cookie lasts, and no longer than 26 months.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies. Some are strictly necessary — they remember what is in your basket and keep checkout secure, and the site cannot work without them. Others are optional, and we only use those if you agree through the banner shown when you first visit. You can change your mind at any time through your browser settings.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it
- have inaccurate information corrected
- ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it
- receive your information in a portable format, or ask us to send it to someone else
- withdraw consent, where we relied on it
To exercise any of these, email info@homewiseuk.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is no charge, and we will never treat you differently for asking.
We may need to confirm who you are before we act on a request — that protects you as much as us.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first at info@homewiseuk.co.uk and we will do our best to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, or 0303 123 1113.
Children
Our website is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Our website runs over an encrypted connection, and payments are handled by Shopify Payments so that card details never pass through our own systems. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't send us sensitive information such as card numbers by email — we will never ask you to.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you directly.
